"Your company from receptionist to your crew and then to [your team member] was OUTSTANDING.
I felt from the start that I was dealing with reliable, intelligent people of integrity and I was right. My attic was beautifully transformed! Small entry spaces (for creatures and bugs) were completely sealed. The walls that protect the master bathroom plumbing now sport insulation and plastic covering and I joke that I should throw a party up there, as it is now the best room in the house!
I belong to an HOA and we have a list serve. Trust me that I will be happy to recommend you when someone asks for a reference.
After the job was completed I had a question about some plastic pipes that were not fully covered by insulation and [your team member] drove many miles to check the job. He came right on time, and thoroughly explained that they were drainage pipes and were properly attended to. All done with understanding and good cheer.
I am in gratitude for having been sent your way. Many, many thanks.
Too bad that I don't need rooms insulated all the time as I have found a gem in your staff! Were it only true that others subscribed to your principles."
"Southland did a wonderful job spray foaming my huge 48x80 metal building! I will definitely recommend them to anyone who needs insulation!"
"The crew came and did a FANTASTIC job on installation. They addressed all my questions and went above and beyond. I was impressed how they filled even the smallest of cracks and left the site cleaner than they found it. I would recommend to anyone looking for OUTSTANDING work and GREAT value."
"I had a serious condensation problem with the HVAC ducts such that when we cut away the moldy drywall, you could see it raining inside the house. My builder called in Southland Insulators’ building scientist Wade Linton, to help diagnose the problem. Wade came out several times and did a blower door test using an infrared camera gun to look for hot stops where hot, humid air could infiltrate onto the cold ducts. As a PhD scientist, I was impressed with Wade’s knowledge of the physics of air flow, dewpoint, thermal barriers, air-to-air heat exchangers, etc. and his diligence in trying to find the root cause of the problem. We ran a series of experiments to see if a simple fix would work. Throughout the process, he explained and answered many of our questions in person, in email and on the phone. Wade was an excellent team player and worked with the other professionals on the team (e.g. the builder, architect, and HVAC expert) to come up with a consensus solution that everyone agreed on. In the end, it was decided that to really fix the problem, a thermal barrier needed to be created to isolate the entire attic space from the second floor. Wade was responsible for executing the plan. Wade’s philosophy is to treat you like family and your house like it was his own. His deeds demonstrated that he meant what he said. He personally supervised the 2-day job with 2 separate crews who were responsible for first removing the old fiberglass insulation and then spray foaming the entire attic space on the top floor and the ducts on the second floor. Each day they showed up on time, made sure that the floors and furniture were covered to prevent damage and that the house was very clean when they left. To remove the toxic fumes from the spray foam they put one huge blower door fan and a smaller fan in the window so that by the time we got home we couldn’t smell anything on the first floor. My husband was very sick at the time and Wade showed sincere compassion for us. He worked around the chemo schedule getting there before we left and made sure the house was in good shape by the time we got home. It was a professional, efficient, well-executed job that I am confident has fixed the problem and as an added bonus lowered our energy bill. During this difficult time for us, it was a pleasure and a comfort to work with Wade on this serious problem. Southland Insulators is very fortunate to have a man of such character working for them."
"I'm building an energy efficient 'green' house, so I interviewed a lot of insulation companies to make sure I hired a company that knew what they were doing. To get the best results, you first have to "air seal" around your window and door openings and also cover your attic floor with a few inches of "foam" (which dries to a kind of meringue-like texture) and then follow up with blown insulation. (Kind of like putting one a sweater and a windbreaker.) I also wanted to soundproof a few interior walls (around the laundry room, and where a bathtub shared a wall with a bedroom.) Maintaining indoor air quality was also important to me. It was a complex project. I worked with Kim, who was very knowledgeable and incredibly responsive. Because of the different components which had to be installed at different points in the construction process, the crews had to come several times. (Each crew is specialized in their part of the operation.) They did a good job and cleaned up nicely after themselves. Twice after they had finished a phase I found small areas they had missed. I called Kim and the crew was there within a day to fix it – no hassle and no extra charge. I would definitely use this company again."
"They were on time, polite, efficient, and very conscientious about my project. I was amazed at the process and the mess was soooo minimal (they cleaned it up regardless). I would definitely recommend Southland Insulators to anyone and they will probably be back at my house!"
"I just had open cell insulation sprayed in my attic by Southland. I worked with Roy Flores. Roy answered all my questions and was patient with my many concerns. I had a two-day job. The first day was removal of my old insulation. It was an awesome team who did a great job cleaning up and getting things done quickly. It was an extremely hot day, so they started early and finished around 2pm. The second day was the insulation team. I let them in, then I left with my dogs. They gave me a call a 1/2 hour before they were done so I could go and lock up. They left an air exchange air fan running out a window in the front of my house. We let this run for three days and did not enter the house. When we returned the house did not smell. The attic itself smelled like new paint, but with the attic door closed, you could not smell it at all. I highly recommend Southland. They were professional in every way and easy to work with. Their price was fair and their insulation product (Icynene Classic Max) is rated very highly.
The best advice I have for consumers is to learn about spray foam insulation before you have it installed. You are required to be out of your house for 24 hours, but I would suggest getting out of town for a weekend if you can. Plan ahead."
"Team was on time and finished all of the work very efficiently, leaving the workspace clean."
"Congrats on the 30th Anniversary and wow what an honorable thing to do for a veteran. I have always had a great respect for Jerry and all at Southland but that gesture just raised the bar even higher. Keep up the good work and may you be blessed with another 30 years (at least) of success!"

"[The first Southland crew] finished the insulation installation today, and [we] are very pleased with their work. They blew insulation into the upper-level (bedroom) attic and were very careful with the plastic sheeting to protect the floors and walls.
The Southland crew on Monday apparently blew insulation into the main-level (living room, dining room, and kitchen) attic while [we were out of the house]. The crew could not have done the upper level as we locked the house. That crew cleaned up the garage and closed the garage door before leaving.
Today, [the crew] suggested we let [them] blow insulation to fill the depth of the joists…over the garage…and we agreed. He first verified that the main-level attic was done Monday before doing the garage attic. [They] cleaned the garage before they left.
Also, the handyman team…sent to patch the garage ceiling Monday did a very good job of fitting the patch and then taping/mudding the seams. They, too, cleaned the garage before leaving.
Again, [we] are very pleased with the professionalism of all those involved in insulating our attic spaces."

"[Congratulations] on doing a fantastic job in installing insulation and air sealing. I have never had any project earn a Grade 1 insulation using fiberglass batts before, and if the project keeps up the good work on the remaining two floors, then the project will earn this grade. This would be a boost to the energy performance as well – which may result in increased points on the LEED checklist. So congratulations thus far, and keep up the good work with insulating and air sealing."

"The reason why I chose you alleged [sic] though you were more expensive was the professional way you handled the process. Courtesy, punctuality, and communication goes a long way."
"I am very happy with the work the guys did... I have recommended your company to several friends."
"They removed old batt insulation from stud portions of the wall and replaced it with closed cell spray foam insulation. They also installed spray foam in two cantilever portions of the house for both air sealing and improved comfort. In addition to the spray foam they also installed 2" foil faced insulation panels on the CMU portions of the basement walls. Careful, meticulous work and I would happily recommend them to anyone who needs insulation work."
"They came out and gave us the price and we scheduled the work. The team arrived as scheduled and removed all of the old batting insulation. They cleaned up so well there was no evidence of them being here. The following day they arrived early and did the work. They requested that no one be home during the installation due to the high level of odor of the foam. We have noticed a big difference in the warmth of the floor."
"Your field team came today and I'm extremely impressed with the work they did. They were right on time - not a minute early nor late, and very professional the entire time. The lead explained the work he was going to do, to ensure it synched with my expectations, and even had me inspect it between phases. They refused any coffee, soda or lunch, and I'm actually rather surprised how long they stayed on the job; they were very meticulous about their work. I already feel a drastic difference in the house. Dollar for dollar this is the best money I've spent on my house even before the BGE rebates, and the entire process has exceeded my expectations. I'm glad I discovered your company and I can't wait to have EcoBeco do the follow up audit. I will surely refer to friends in the neighborhood."
"40 year old house with inadequate insulation and with improper venting. Very thorough evaluation, work was done at the designated date and was completed promptly, no calls back for any issues. Reduced our air loss by 41%. We are are warm and toasty without having had to turn on the furnace as of yet. Have referred several other folks to them."
"Insulated soffit overhang and back wall of house. Plus additional room used for outdoor storage under main level of house. Estimator was pleasant and knowledgeable. Price was less than we expected. Scheduling a breeze. They showed up, introduced themselves, explained what they were going to do. Protected the house from the spray foam that they used on part of the job. Tore out old bat insulation, installed new. Cleaned up after themselves. Replaced siding and soffit. Did not leave a speck of evidence that they were here, except for a warmer place inside. Less than half a day. Did wonders! Would use again."
"Squirrels got into my attic and made themselves at home! They had shredded the existing insulation and made large nests in various places throughout the attic. Having the insulation "fixed" was the final step. First I had to have all the wiring in the attic replaced because they had chewed off the insulation. Next I had to have the exterior trim boards replaced because they had made holes on 3 sides of my house in order to have quick and easy access. Last was the insulation. The squirrels had pulled the insulation from the backing and rearranged it to make numerous large nest areas. In some places in my attic there was no insulation left at all. The saleswoman who came to give the estimate
was very pleasant and professional. She spent a good while up in the attic. She explained to me that I had some options. The best way to go (most expensive, but most effective) was to remove all the existing insulation and replace it with new blown in to a value of R49. The other option was to smooth out the existing insulation and put blown in R30 insulation. Because all this was an unexpected expense and doing bad things to my budget, I decided to go the less expensive route. The crew arrived on the day and time that had been arranged. They worked quickly and quietly and left no mess. When they were finished the crew chief was very disappointed that I wouldn't go up into the attic to view his work. He was obviously very proud of the way it looked! I had to explain that I was 70+ and my days of crawling through small access doors in a closet ceiling were over. He made me promise to have my grandson go up there and take pictures! I was very impressed at the pride this man takes in his work."
"Very professional and quick installation. The crew was clean and courteous. I've seen a dramatic reduction in energy costs for my home."
"I just had a very favorable experience with (your company). I hesitate to recommend anyone anymore, because someone always jumps in with a criticism! But they were professional, prompt, clean, and quiet. I expected a lot of dust and noise, and am grateful that did not happen."
"I wanted to commend Southland on your performance and your people. [My sales rep]... gave me the info... I needed and answered my questions directly. I needed to split the project into two phases so that I could make some changes in my attic. Juan has accommodated this completely.
I still have the actual insulating to do but I wanted to point out the removal crews performance…the crew of three did a great job. The attic space is difficult (hip roof on four sides) and framed by hand creating tight odd spaces. The cantilever in the front was a nasty space under a deck. [The crew] was very helpful answering questions and controlling the process. [They] even loaded some debris I had placed near the dumpster unprompted. Terrific!
I look forward to phase two and future projects. Highly recommend your company."
"Please thank your team for the hard work and diligence in getting this nasty, nasty job accomplished. They zipped in and zipped out like the professionals should do, never letting anyone know they were even there! Job Well Done. We’ll keep your contacts handy and look forward to the next job with you."
"I want to take this opportunity to thank Southland Insulators for a job well done on the [residential project]. The Fairfax County inspector specifically commented on how well the work had been completed. Please pass along to the Southland Insulators crew how pleased Jackson Construction Services is with their work on this project."

"Out of all the individuals I met [during my research on retrofitting my home], [your employee] emerged as the only one who seems to have had a nearly complete grasp of the interconnectedness of [many] disciplines. He gave me an initial appraisal and estimate on August 1, 2011. I then proceeded to try and invalidate everything he suggested. This went on for a couple of months while I grilled every contractor I could get to talk to me, numerous members of the Fairfax County building inspection teams, your competitors, and hours and hours on the internet searching and researching.
Once I was armed with all kinds of questions and refutations, I again approached [your employee] via email... repeatedly over a few weeks. He disarmed me entirely. He had an intelligent, well reasoned and expressed answer for every one of my questions. Even as his own home was flooding, he took time to answer my questions. Throughout he was professional, personable, patient and genuinely concerned that I employ the most appropriate methods in my quest to retrofit my home. He took the time to make sure that I understood his answers to my questions - and I had a lot of them.
I could go on but I hope that my intention is understood: [your employee], in my book, is a great representative of your company - and your industry. You are lucky to have him speaking on your behalf.
And as for the work that was done: no better compliment could be given than that the tradespeople who have been in the crawl space or in the attic since the encapsulations have been completed have all been in awe. The final product is very impressive."
"Now that colder weather has arrived, we finally have a chance to experience the impact of your work in sealing up the leaks in the attic and band joist. We turned the heat on for the first time yesterday when the heating technician was here because the house has been holding temperature very well requiring only an hour or so of heat from the fireplace. Last night we turned down the thermostat at 9:30 when the temperature in the house was 69 degrees. We normally keep it at 68, but the heating tech had it running to do the combustion tests. This morning, the temperature at 6 AM was 67 degrees with an outside temperature of 36! The house lost only 2 degrees overnight. Last year the change would have been more like a 6 or 7 degree drop. The house is definitely more comfortable now."
"[The crew] finished around 2:30 pm / hard working / focused / very professional – represented Southland in a most positive way! Little to no post installation cleanup!
Can already feel the difference in the temperature in the house. Another indicator is the HVAC which has three cycle speeds has down shifted to the lowest cycle when it needs to come on."
"I want to take this opportunity to thank (your team) for their outstanding service. (My estimator) spent a significant amount of time diagnosing the issues I was having with my crawlspace, finding problems that other (companies) had missed. (He) then beat the competition by thousands of dollars in his proposal. (The crew) arrived ahead of the proposed time of 0800 and went right to work immediately. They performed all of the tasks I requested and then went above and beyond by insulating other areas that they thought could be a concern. Your team exceeded my expectations, and I will certainly pass your name to anyone who may need similar services in the future. Thanks for everything."
"I wanted to send a message to you and your crews to compliment your professionalism and quality work. You did a great job in giving me advice and explaining what was going to happen on my insulation project. Your crews were here very early and on time. They staged out on the road so they wouldn't disturb my family before the start time we agreed to. As soon as I saw they were out there I told them to feel free to get started. They even asked about the neighbors, who I knew were already off to work. And they went well into the evening to assure completion of the job. I appreciated their easygoing approach. There were are few complications they faced and they properly solved the problems with good humor. They also answered every question I had. I also appreciated your connection during the job by staying in contact with the crew by phone and coming out to the house later in the day.
You have a dedicated, extremely hard-working team that is focused on customer service. Keep up the good work and thank you."
"I write to recognize the professionalism of the Southland Insulators team that performed repairs to my home this morning. I start by expressing my heartfelt appreciation for the integrity demonstrated by [your employee]. Throughout the entire process beginning with my initial contact...(his) approach was one of honesty and empathy regarding the situation. His approach was not to do what one may have a right to do, but 'to do the right thing.'
Additionally, another team member...impressed me with his display of pride in his workmanship. He and the entire team...were all prompt and very efficient in completing the job on a very cold, early morning. Lastly, they cleaned up upon completion, something also rare in my experience.
A team emulates its leaders and I would submit that the professionalism, work ethic and respect for customers speaks highly of the quality of the Southland organization. Please extend my thanks to all involved."
"I selected Southland Insulators to complete my attic project (it required lifting an attic floor and properly installing the correct type of insulation which was no small job by any means). They sent me three outstanding young men who not only worked hard but also worked smart. I was impressed and as you know, I am not easily impressed. Their prices are most competitive for the quality of work that I had done."
"My wife and I had bathroom plumbing over the garage that froze and burst in January 2009 and 2010. Since half the garage's ceiling was removed to facilitate repairs, we decided to address the unusual coldness of the bathroom's floor. We called a couple of insulation companies but Southland was able to beat the other competitors. Southland was not only willing to spray foam underneath the bathroom flooring but was able to spray foam the bathroom's exterior (vertical) walls with their Icynene products. The effectiveness of the Icynene was immediate because we noticed that this bathroom floor was now slightly warmer than our master bathroom.
Since we were very impressed not only with the product's effectiveness but with the company's professionalism (the team showed up on time, is thorough, clean and willing to address any issues that might arise), we decided in April 2010 to have our attic ceiling completely sealed with Icynene. We did our research to determine if there were any issues from others who used Icynene in their attic. After weighing all the pros and cons, and based on our experience with our bathroom, we decided to go for it. Again, we were quite impressed with the thoroughness of Southland's efforts. The team not only filled in all the open spacing but also covered over the joists (but with enough visible outline)
whereby most companies do not treat the joists. At first we were concerned because there was a strong odor the first night after the work was completed, but this quickly dissipated in about a day and a half and we have not experienced any additional off gassing.
Overall, we give Southland Insulators an A++. Thank you, Southland Insulators!"
